Boxing Day Pub Crawl Itinerary!

FULL itinerary

1.      Penn Station – 11:30 AM – Main waiting area under the sign.  The 10:34 out of Chatham (10:03 out of Dover, Train #6632, Morristown Line) arrives in NY at 11:20.  Buy an all day MTA Fun Pass from a machine or a newsstand.  Take the #11 bus south on 9th Ave to West 18th St., walk west to the river.

2.      Lunch 12:30Chelsea Brewing Company, W. 18th Street and West Side Highway, Pier 59, Chelsea Piers (212) 336-6440.  – Leaving, walk east to 7th Ave and take the M20 down to the intersection of 7th Ave, Bleecker St. and Barrow Street.  Go ¾ of a block east on Barrow.

3.      Barrow Street Ale House15 Barrow Street (between West 4th and Bleecker).  212.206.7302. Leaving, go back west on Barrow to Bleecker and 7th Ave, then one block south on Bleecker.

4.      Blind Tiger281 Bleecker St. at Jones St. 212-462-4682.  Opens 11:30.  Leaving, go one block east on Jones, turn right onto W. 4th and go 1.5 blocks east.

5.      Vol de Nuit148 West 4th Street.  212.979.2616  Opens at 4 PM. Leaving, walk east on West 4th three blocks to Thompson.  Turn right (south) and go 1 block.

6.      The Half Pint76 W. 3rd St and Thompson  212-260-1088  Noon to midnight.  Sister of Stout, and Fat Annie’s Truck Stop.  Leaving, continue south one block to Bleecker turn left and go ½ block.

7.      Peculier Pub – 145 Bleecker (south of Washington square, north of Houston).  212-353-1327 Opens 5PM.  Leaving, walk ½ block east to LaGuardia, 1 block south to Houston.  

8.      Take #21 Bus across Houston to Christie (2nd Ave).  Get off and walk one block south to Stanton, turn right and go ¼ block west.

9.      Stanton Public – 17 Stanton between Christie and Bowery 212-677-5555.  Leaving, go east to Christie (called 2nd Ave north of Houston), turn left (north) one block to Houston, turn right (east) and go three short blocks to Allen/1st Ave.   Turn left (north) and go 2.5 blocks on 1st Ave.

10.  d.b.a., 41 1st Avenue (between 2nd and 3rd streets). (212) 475-5097.  A clean winter coat for the homeless gets you  a free pint!  Leaving, walk north on 1st Avenue five full blocks to St. Marks, turn right (east) and go 1/2 block.

11.  Hop Devil129 St. Marks Place (off Avenue A), 212-533-4467.  Leaving, go west 1.5 blocks to 2nd Ave, then turn left and go 1 block south to East 7th St.  Turn right and go ¼ block west to Brewsky’s or Burp Castle.

12.  Brewsky’s/Burp Castle – 41 E. 7th St, between 2nd and 3rd Aves 212.982-4576.  Burp has Belgian ales, Brewsky’s has a cute model train.  If Vol de Nuit is closed, we do Belgian.  Leaving, continue west on 7th Street.

13.  McSorley’s Old Ale House15 East 7th Street, 212.473.9148.   Order by “two’s” for the best deal: “two light”, “two dark” or “two and two”.  Each 10 oz mug comes only about 2/3 full, so four is like a big pint.  Leaving, go west to 3rd Avenue and catch the M101, M102 or M103 bus north to 19th St.

14.  Paddy Maguire’s 237 3rd Ave (19th & 20th), Ed Lhotak’s friend’s brother’s bar.  (212) 473-8407 Cash only.  Leaving, get back on the bus up to 34th Street.  Walk 3 avenues west to Madison, then two blocks north to 36th, then ½ block west.

15.  The Ginger Man 11 East 36th Street (between 5th and Madison). (212) 532-3740  Leaving, go ½ block west to 5th Avenue, then two blocks south to 34th Street. 

16.  Heartland Brewery (Empire State Building) 350 Fifth Avenue, 212-563-3433.  Leaving, go one block west on 34th to 6th Ave then one block south to 33rd, then 1/3 block west.

 

 

17.  Stout128-135 West 33rd Street, 212-629-6191.  If you’re still on your feet, go one block west to Penn Station and go home!

18.  Chumley’s – 86 Bedford.  Leaving, walk south, turn left at corner onto Barrow, go two blocks (past 7th Ave to W. 4th Street, turn right and go 3.5 blocks (one block is very short).  Just a walk by to pay our respects!

19.  White Horse Tavern567 Husdon Street (West 11th).  Memories of Dylan Thomas. A large, old-fashioned pub.  Leaving, walk south on Hudson.

20.  Drop Off Service – 211 Avenue A (13th & 14th), 212-260-2914.  Leaving, go two blocks west to 2nd Ave. walk to E. 30th.  Alternatively, walk 1 block west to 1st Ave and take the M15 bus to 30th street, then walk west one block to 2nd Ave.

21.  Waterfront Ale House540 2nd Avenue (at 30th Street).   212.696.4104  Leaving, walk north to 34th Street, west 4 blocks to Madison, two blocks north to 36th, turn left and go ½ block.

22.  Ear Inn – 326 Spring Street – Historic sailors bar.  Leaving, walk east to Hudson, take the #20 back north to near West 10th.  This was pretty far to go on a cold day for one beer.
