Life On Tap #228: Cherry Raspberry Pop

Episode #228: Grimm Cherry Raspberry Pop

Dan is finally getting back to tasting on a more regular schedule, so he dips into a tasty Berliner Weisse — Grimm Cherry Raspberry Pop!

Grimm Cherry Raspberry Pop!

This is Grimm’s “Creamsicle-Inspired Dessert Berliner w/ Cherries, Raspberries, Vanilla, and Milk Sugar”, weighing in at 4% ABV.

Appearance

Beautiful pinkish color, reminiscent of cherry or raspberry juice similar to Weyerbacher Riserva.

Aroma

Juicy! Cherry and raspberry play a big part, but the bouquet smells as if it was mixed with clementine juice a la Tequila Sunrise.

Taste

Fruit punch baby! Tartness and dryness dominate the finish, but super clean and drinkable.

Mouthfeel

The acidity cuts the tongue just a little bit, and the dryness and carbonation (and the fact it was really cold) helped this slide across my palate effortlessly even for a Berliner Weisse.

Overall

As it warmed up, there was even more nuances on the nose and palate. The lactose definitely played its part well in this, but it also allowed the fruit to shine. If you manage to come across this, I would definitely recommend it.

Cheers and remember:

Episode #227: Sixpoint Global Warmer

Recorded in January and still feeling the need for winter beers, Dan wanted to revisit and warm up with a local seasonal: Sixpoint Global Warmer.

Sixpoint Global Warmer

Global Warmer weighs in at 7% ABV, has 70 IBUs and an SRM of 17.

Appearance

Red tint on copper, with a huge off-white head.

Aroma

Cinnamon, nutmeg and holiday/warming spices on the nose.

Taste

Sweetness leads off along with toasted caramel, with a pleasant hop bitterness coming in later and through the complex finish.

Mouthfeel

The “warming” feeling continues along with a subtle softness and dryness to keep you going back for more.

Overall

Since the spice/holiday flavors are not overpowering, this is one winter beer that is extremely food-friendly. Ham, goose or other fowl and game could meet and play with Sixpoint Global Warmer. I wouldn’t pound a bunch of these at 7%, but sharing them amongst your family and friends would “warm” your gathering. The slim cans help echo the presence of draft, in my opinion.
