Episode #221: Barktoberfest

Though recorded a few weeks ago around actual Oktoberfest, here’s a quick recap from Dan of Thirsty Dog Barktoberfest to help you wind down the season.

Thirsty Dog Barktoberfest

Thirsty Dog Barktoberfest is a seasonal offering available from August through October of “a traditional old world German Style Oktoberfest” lager. I pulled mine out of a 6-pack to make a mixed 6 with other seasonal beers, though it’s also available in 1/2 and 1/6 kegs. O.G. is 16 Plato, has 15 IBUs and weighs in at 6% ABV. Head’s up for an audio spike just before the 55 second mark…RUFF!
Also, if you’re in NYC over Christmas and want to do a little drinking on Boxing Day (aka the 26th), join Dan and Dad On Tap and more of the crew for the Boxing Day Pub Crawl! Contact Dan for details.

Appearance

True to style, clear with an autumnal look/color and a good amount of carbonation.

Aroma

Grain, toasted bread and malt up front.

Taste

Full, malty build and flavor with toasted and breadiness shining with good balance.

Mouthfeel

Medium body with the tiny bubbles of carbonation delicately bouncing across and actually coating my tongue a lot more than expected.

Overall

Get out your brats and pretzels…food friendly as hell with about anything barbecue or even pizza. Fairly true to style, though it would be cool to horizontally blind-taste new and old world producers of the style of either Märzens or Festbiers respectively.
Cheers and remember:
Life’s a tap…drink up ’til it’s dry.
All music on this show came to us from the now defunct Music Alley.
